thanks guys. i figured out what happened. i converted the text to outlines. it got caught up in something else i was converting to outlines . i hit "create outlines" on them. lol. thanks.

there's a dotted square around the type tool symbol. that usually happens if an object is in the way. but there's no object in the way. and i can't delete any text with it. looks kind of like that drawing. and there's a tiny x where the cursor is pointing.

just command- shift- 5. select logo with the window with anchors provided hit "capture" it'll save to desktop for your use. hth. i think you have to have the latest version of Ai for it to work.

it's too bad. people who make picture clippings a lot are in the dark as to what picture clipping is which. they have to drag them all onto the art board to see.

to make a picture clipping you drag an object from your art board onto your desktop. it becomes a "picture clipping". it used to have the image you dragged on the picture clipping icon. but not now. so you don't know what the picture clipping is of.

Ai used to have the image on the picture clipping so you know what image it is. now you have to drag it onto the art board to find out. is there a setting to show the image on the file so you know what you are getting?

thank you both. but i realized what i was doing wrong. when i reinstalled illustrator i didn’t close out all the other apps. it said to do that and i didn’t. but now i did and it’s up and running.

ever since the adware invaded my computer i haven’t been able to open illustrator. i removed the adware but still can’t open illustrator. i uninstalled and reinstalled the illustrator disk but it still won’t open. i think the adware did a number on that application. please help. i use it a lot. imac desktop OS X yosemite versin 10.10.5
